“Sticks and Stones…” – Proverbs 12
September 10, 2017
Vs 6 -The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood,
but the speech of the upright rescues them.
Your words can be used to destroy
Your words can be used to rescue
Vs 13-14 – Evildoers are trapped by their sinful talk,
and so the innocent escape trouble.
From the fruit of their lips people are filled with good things,
and the work of their hands brings them reward.
You can be ensnared by your evil speech
You can be rewarded by your fruitful lips
Vs. 16 – Fools show their annoyance at once,
but the prudent overlook an insult.
You can show your weakness by speaking under pressure
You can show your strong character by being silent
Vs. 18 – The words of the reckless pierce like swords,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
You can speak without thinking and destroy
You can choose your words wisely and heal
Vs. 19 – Truthful lips endure forever,
but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.
You can be a liar and be empty
You can be honest and enjoy a full life
Vs. 22 – The Lord detests lying lips,
but he delights in people who are trustworthy.
You can disappoint God by lying
You can make him delight in you by being trustworthy
Vs. 23 – The prudent keep their knowledge to themselves,
but a fool’s heart blurts out folly.
You can speak with no restraint
You can hold your tongue
Vs. 25 – Anxiety weighs down the heart,
but a kind word cheers it up.
There is a great power in speaking kindness
